Loving, respecting, and taking care of Mother Earth is our theme for First Day School this year. Through interactive and fun activities, we hope to inspire wonder and awe as we experience the Earth as our home, see how we share our home with God’s creatures, and learn how we can behave in caring ways for our world. Through these experiences, we hope to instill a sense of kinship with all life, recognizing the interrelatedness of all Earth processes.
AFM’s Children’s Religious Education (CREC) is seeking volunteers to participate as teachers. A desire to nurture our children is the only prerequisite needed to be effective. CREC will support you if needed. Please sign up below!
We are excited to draw upon the curriculum developed by Quaker Earthcare Witness (QEW) as a rich resource for us. There are themes for children: Earthcare For Children Curriculum. On that webpage, you can click on a theme per chapter to see the goals and download a helpful handout (PDF) with more information and suggestions for activities and projects. Your creativity on the suggested topics is welcome. You are also welcome to choose a subject that interests you but has nothing to do with the topics and themes of Quaker Earthcare
The primary teacher will select the topic within the monthly theme. Check the Themes from the QEW website and prepare the lesson. The secondary teacher helps the primary teacher, as they agree. The secondary teacher needs to enter the same topic on the form as the Primary teacher or simply write Secondary in the Topic field.
*Note 1: There is a security question to answer to ensure that robots cannot sign up.
